If You Could See Your Beauty

by Sydney Harrell

If you were half as kind to yourself as you are to ot
hers
Perhaps you could stand tall
And if you didn't judge yourself with other people's eyes
Perhaps you wouldn't feel, and then appear, so small.
If you loved yourself with unconditional love
And saw the beauty of your being
In your reflection you'd feel like there's something to be proud of
And something so very much worth seeing.
If you didn't let another's thoughts
Overshadow your own
Perhaps you'd find the acceptance you've sought
And find the perfect in yourself that you'd left unknown.
If you would carve your body with your heart
And not other people's eyes
You'd stop picking your beauty apart
And realize that those people bring about their own demise.
If you could see the beauty of being an imperfect human
Creative in your own way
Your body, heart and mind could get along like crewman
And there wouldn't be a single part of yourself that you'd be afraid to display.
Beauty comes in every shape, color and size
And each and every one is perfect and pure
Every time you criticize yourself a part of you dies
You, my dear human, deserve to be secure.

Hi Sydney. What a beautiful poem. But I do think a healthy dose of self examination and positive correction when needed also assists in adding to the beauty of who we are ( this is true for me, at least.) You shared so wonderfully not to let others dictate our actives and feelings toward ourselves. Excellent. Blessings to you! Teresa

Hi Sydney.

If only people would see whats on the inside and look beyond the wrapping.

Unfortunately society thinks and tells us different,we must be this size, we must look like this,we must ware this etc. what ever happened to this is me,this is who I am.

Thanks Dave, I agree. We're told what to look like, how to act, etc, instead of encouraged to be ourselves. We should all be proud of who we are.

Thanks so much for commenting,
