The US House of Representatives Banned Funding For Planned Parenthood

The US House of Representatives have recently voted to ban all funding for Planned Parenthood.

I am pro life. I do not want to see children aborted. But violating women's reproductive rights is not the answer. I believe the proper way to stop abortion is through preventing unwanted pregnancies through education, support and birth control, so there’s no need for abortion.

Which is EXACTLY what Planned Parenthood did.

Here’s a list of what Planned Parenthood, the Nation’s leading sexual and reproductive health care provider and advocate offered to the public:

Physical Services:

Abortion

Birth Control (For men and women)

Morning After Pill (Emergency Contraception)

General Health Care

Cancer Screening

Vasectomy

Male Infertility (Screening and referral)

Female Infertility (Screening and referral)

HPV Tests

Pelvic Exams

STD Testing (And education/information/prevention)

Pap Tests

Erectile Dysfunction Services (Information, exams, treatment, and referral)

Men’s Sexual Health (And information)

Women’s Health (And information)

(That’s not NEARLY all of  what they offer, that’s just a quick list of some of the services they provide)

Education/Support Services:

Pregnancy

Relationships

Sex and Sexuality

Gender and Sexual Orientation

Body Image

STD’s

What I would like to tell the US House of Representatives:

If you want to stop abortion, help prevent it.

WITHOUT waging war on women and men’s reproductive rights.

By banning funding for Planned Parenthood in an attempt to stop abortion, you’ve banned funding for all of the birth control and contraceptives they provide as well, which prevent unwanted pregnancies. When there are no unwanted pregnancies, there will be no need for abortion.

The US House of Representatives call what they did ‘pro life’ and ‘saving lives’ but I prefer to call it STUPID and a VIOLATION OF OUR BASIC REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS.

If they were ‘pro life’ they’d be preventing the need for abortion, thereby preventing abortion itself, without violating women and men’s reproductive rights. What other ways are we going to allow the US House of Representatives violate us? WHERE will the violation STOP? Will we stand up for our rights, or allow them to violate us? If we allow their violation of our rights to continue, how else will they violate them? I’m afraid to find out. I’m horrified that they managed to ban funding for Planned Parenthood.

Hi Sydney, I appreciate your passion and your style. But I don't see how banning funding is robbing men and women of their rights. True, it changes who has access to these services, but it doesn't violate their rights. And it's goes deeper than these. What about the many people who do not agree with abortion. Why should their tax dollars go to fund a program that they disagree with? All the way across the board, there is no easy answer. I have tons of medical bills for health issues over the years and have to pay for them my self. Just because my health care isn't funded by the government doesn't mean I am being denied my rights. The other sidie of this can be looked at as well - what about all the programs out there that support other alternatives to Abortion and provide sex ed etc.. - these are all privately funded. The government doesn't help these because most of them are of a religious nature. It would seem fair that Planned Parenthood should be privately funded as well. Anyway, just my two cents :-) Blessings to you! Teresa

I don't feel like general health care should be privately funded. I don't disagree with funding for abortion being banned, I disagree with funding for birth control and general health care being banned. The answer to abortion is prevention. If the people having sex are on birth control, they wont have unwanted pregnancies, and wont have a need for abortion. If birth control is available to the public, it prevents unwanted pregnancies. Because let's face it, people wont just stop having sex. They'll just have unwanted babies. I feel like by banning funding for Planned Parenthood, the government is denying the public one of their basic rights, their right to health care. Funding for abortion I disagree with, but funding for birth control, contraception, std treatment and information benefits us all.

But I see your point and you make a good argument, thanks for commenting,
