My Opinion of The Teachings of The 'Holy' Bible

You need to watch your every move, human, because there’s a vengeful, murderous, abusive, sexist, perverted, prejudiced, all knowing, all powerful male entity in the sky who is watching every move you make, just waiting to teach you a hard learned lesson! If you don’t obey him, he’ll punish you and you’ll burn in a flaming hell for eternity with ‘Satan’! Satan is an evil man made male entity who seeks to corrupt humans and make them commit vile acts against their man made God.

MEN, mortal men, wrote the Bible. They say that their writing was 'inspired by God'. But that’s easy to say, isn’t it? Anyone can write a book filled with violence, sexism and prejudice, and say they were ‘inspired by God’ to write it!

Christianity supplies a Hell for the people who disagree with them and a Heaven for their friends.

- Elbert Hubbard
It’s easy to spread ignorance, sexism, cruelty and bigotry if there is an all powerful God standing behind and supporting you in your so called ‘righteous’ and ‘holy’ quest. THINK ABOUT IT. It’s not that hard to figure out!

The Bible is full of discrimination, hate, violence, and cruelty and as a peaceful person I have tried to tolerate each religion, but I refuse to tolerate a religion based around a book of horrors, cruelties, and perverted injustices! And yes, I have read the Bible. The whole Bible. The New Testament and Old Testament. Which is precisely why I am writing an article about it.

When I read the Bible, I was truly horrified beyond measure with Christianity’s so called ‘God’. I even wonder if Christians actually read the Bible because if they do, then how can they possibly remain Christian?

When I argue with Christians, they often say ‘Well, that was the way of the times back then, Christians today are not like that, and don’t support rape, prejudice, slavery, sexism, murder’ etc but that is exactly my point. Today, surely we should all know that the teachings of the Bible are totally unacceptable!

Not to mention, the Bible has been written and edited over a period of many years, so why hasn’t someone taken the sickening sexism, cruelty and prejudice out of it already, and replaced it with something remotely intelligent and civilized?

‘Cause the fact is, ‘God’ is man made. ‘God’ says whatever man says that he says, and ‘God’ reflects the opinion of those who created him, and those who support him.

If you support the violence, sexism, abuse and prejudice of the ‘Christian God’ then that is your choice, but it does reflect on you as a person. And if you really believe that you’re going to ‘burn’ in some ‘Hell’ if you don’t support the Bible, then you are extremely gullible and easy to convince!

And even if ‘Heaven’ and ‘Hell’ were real (I have no fear of the 'unknown', NO ONE has all the answers, and I don’t claim, out of fear or ego to know what the afterlife entails) then I would rather revolt against this violent, cruel and sexist God and burn in ‘Hell’ for eternity than go to ‘Heaven’ for being a coward and supporting the big bully in the sky out of fear of him!

You can call it ‘holy’ and ‘righteous’ all you want but as far as I’m concerned, rape, abuse, slavery, cruelty, and prejudice are not ‘holy’ or ‘righteous’. Before you support the Bible (just because you're told to), really read it. Ready every single paragraph. Because I do not see how any sane, mentally healthy and coherent human being can read the Bible and support it.

And the main thing you need to understand while reading this article is, I have NO problem with Christianity in particular. I have a problem with the prejudiced, sexist and cruel teaching of the Bible.

Thank, Ella! I appreciate it! I was worried about posting it because of the very reason Gregory mentioned above, that there are many people who will be unhappy with my objectivity to their 'Holy Bible', but this is the way I feel and I spoke my mind. Thank you for the supportive and heartfelt comment!

Sydney,

I firmly believe that truth needs to be questioned constantly. Maybe it's a trait of those of us who grew up in oppressive religious environments and wanted out. In my experience and in historical contexts, whenever human beings stop asking questions and examining the whys and wherefores of our behavior patterns, bad things always happen; we start justifying all sorts of cruelty, oppression, and abuse in the name of religion and ideology. Don't stop asking questions. Some things do require faith - but that's something you have to arrive at on your own.

And that's the very reason why you have learned much Jean- and will learn much before your life is done...you and Bruce seem to be a perfect match; I don't mean exactly identical- I mean compatable and coordinated. Thanks for your input here- I enjoyed reading it-

I agree COMPLETELY Jean, that is exactly how I feel. We should always question and challenge what most of society takes for granted, that's how we learn, grow and advance. You're very wise, and I really appreciate the comment.

Well, Sidney, I'm glad I read all the way through to your last paragraph where you said. "I have NO problem with Christianity in particular." :-)

Hi Joel, well, we all have different opinions and perceptions according to what we're exposed to. I know not all people will agree with me on my views of The Bible.

Thanks for the comment,

I've thought about this some more Sydney....To me, what it all boils down to is -In the Christian religion, people cannot separate that book, whatever one sees it as, from their basic human belief in God...they cannot see that human belief does not have to be connected to that particular book- other religions do the same thing....if they don't have their books to go by and point for them- they think they cannot find the way- just using their natural thoughts and feelings- their natural soul-voice. This is a great article because it gets minds to thinking.. farther afield.which we all must do.....in order not to limit ourselves to one narrow channel of thought, leaving so many other channels unexplored. Thanks for writing it. Always- Ella

Ella, as always, you are so wise, and completely right. I couldn't agree with you more.

That's exactly what I mean in my article, I don't have a problem with anyone's belief in God, I have a problem with the teachings of The Bible itself. Believing in God and living by the book are two completely different things. God has no association with The Bible, The Bible was written by men, with the thoughts of men, not the thoughts of God.

Thanks so much for the comment,

Great article Sydney. Thank you for being you. We spend far too much of our energy trying to justify the bigotry of religion.

Sydney, if you asked somebody to edit out the parts you didn't like from a history book, the educational community would be in an uproar. Whether you believe in the Bible as an inspired work or not, it is still a historical account. Rewriting history isn't going to change it. At least you know you'll be getting a lot of responses to your article, so thank you for letting us know your opinion on the matter.

I don't want the Bible to be rewritten, I want people to realize how silly it is to follow it as the word of God, as it cannot be proven to be a historical account at all.

It should be considered a work of fiction, as it is not even historically accurate or reliable, it is a collection of myths and metaphors, all bundled up in one book.

I wouldn't ask a history book to be rewritten, nor the Bible. But, as I said, I don't consider the Bible a historical account.

Hey, I really like this article, have you ever looked into psychology and subliminal messages by chance? Some people have read the bible all the way through even several times, the sad thing is, they often push the distasteful stuff to the back of their minds in the subconscious area, thus increased brainwashing success. There is a huge two part book I'd like you to look at, it's called Reincarnation and Biology: A contribution to the etiology of birthmarks and birth defects, the author is Dr. Ian Stevenson! Please grab a copy if you can, you'd be surprised at the massive evidence compiled. Think, is reincarnation would be accepted as truth, then the realization that all races gender and people of different sexual orientations are truly equal in value. Also come to think of it, people believing that they are to be forever bound to this earth would also promote increased environmental concern. Now also, if reincarnation is in fact truth then, it's promotion would actually also aid in the evolution of mankind's mind body and soul. Either way I'd say it would be a beneficial thing to believe in. So please do look into it ^_^

I have studied religions for many years and have called myself Jew, Christian, and Muslim. I choose to be all that is good and righteous.

I have accepted that it is self-evident that I cannot turn off the energy that causes me to think. I can choose thoughts to give attention to and to dwell on. I cannot think nothing. I accept that this is the case with most people since I have found no one to say otherwise. Therefore, I conclude that there is the self-evidence of some presence within each being that must always be expressing through us whether we choose to or not. I accept the intelligence of this energy and I accept that intelligence responds to intelligence. When we give attention to this intelligence it responds accordingly. This intelligence doesn't care what it is called although I believe some will call it God.

I read what is written about God in religions and conclude that it is merely man's attempt to explain what is unexplainable. The writings are for the times and the locations of the people. Many things are said about the God that people are encouraged to believe in but belief is not enough.

Most religions say that God is all-knowing, all-presence, and all-power. I have read in the Bible that the kingdom of God is within you. I accept that the energy that I spoke of is that presence within all of us, knowing how to use it's power through each individual. I call the energy Divine Presence. We don't have to allow a religion to tell us about God when we have faith in what is within us that created us. I accept that we are meant to be knowers and can know as much as we are ready to know!

When we give attention to the self-evident Divine Presence within, we move away from the teachings that rely on beliefs and come to know and know that we know. I have members of my family who are devout Christian and Muslim. They are beautiful, righteous people who don't see things the way I do. I accept that any who have a need to believe in a religion should believe although that which created us all does not care. Whatever it takes to be a righteous person is good for the whole planet.

Evidence indicates that man has used religions to manipulate people and I conclude that they will write that God told them to do some things that were not righteous. That is why some who have been involved with religions begin to call themselves atheists or agnostics. They reject or are not sure of the God taught in the religions they were exposed to until they contemplate the Divine Presence within.
