Death, Thou Art Untimely

Wait, Death, wait a while
I'm not ready yet, to
Wait Death, wait awhile
Don't take my life on the breath of a sigh.
Wait, Death, wait awhile
I've yet got years to live
Wait, Death, wait awhile
I've still got hugs to give.
Wait, Death, wait awhile
Where will my soul be sent?
Wait Death, wait awhile
My Religion says I've sinned.
Wait, Death, wait awhile
Don't let the Fates clip my strings
Wait, Death, wait awhile
Don't shadow me with your wings.
Wait, Death, wait awhile
I have picked foolish, unjust fights
Wait, Death, wait awhile
I have violated other's rights.
Wait, Death, wait awhile
I have apologies to make
Wait, Death, wait awhile
My actions make my heart ache.
Wait, Death, wait awhile
Take someone else instead
Wait, Death, wait awhile
I have many words unsaid.
Wait, Death, wait awhile
I have many books unread
Wait, Death, wait awhile
I'm not yet ready to be dead.
Wait, Death, wait awhile
Stop creeping over my shoulder
Wait, Death, wait awhile
Let me grow another year older.
Wait, Death, wait awhile
Why have you picked me?
Wait, Death, wait awhile
Whatever the reason, we'll disagree.
Wait, Death, wait awhile
There's so many things I haven't done
Wait, Death, wait awhile
I never learned to have fun.
Wait, Death, wait awhile
I know I should have done all these things before
But wait, Death, just wait awhile
Your timing, I deplore.
Wait, Death, wait awhile
I planned on changing my ways
Wait, Death, wait awhile
I was simply going through a phase.
Wait, Death, wait awhile
Allow me to rephrase
Wait, Death, wait awhile
I was kind and always received praise!
Wait, Death, wait awhile
Now will you still bring my life to an end?
Wait, Death, wait awhile
On your mercy, I depend!
Wait, Death, wait awhile
I never kissed the ones I loved
Wait, Death, wait awhile
Keep your skeletal hand, gloved.
Wait, Death, wait awhile
I still have things to do!
Wait, Death, wait awhile
I want to make my life anew.
Wait, Death, wait awhile
Why aren't you listening to me?
Wait, Death, wait awhile
I must be left absentee!
Wait, Death, wait awhile
My speech is not yet done
Wait, Death, wait awhile
Death waits for no one.

Revealing and knowledgable of human fears and feelings- none of us are ever ready to go softly into that goodnight...... and the great equalizer is someone we never want to meet.......Thanks- Sidney- Good writing- Always- EllaThanks, Ella, I really appreciate it!
hi sydney,
poems are really hard, i know because i write them once in a while. this was excellent.

my best to you,
sueThanks so much, it means alot.
I'm ready to go anytime my Lord wants me.That's how we all should feel, but I, myself, find the thought of death terrifying. Thanks for reading and commenting
Beautifully expressed! We're kept from so many things that are meaningful in life by dealing with things that seem urgent, but are truly unimportant. We're also kept from our dreams if we hesitate, doubt, fear. Now is the only moment we have, and we need to live it to the full. Great poem! Thanks so much, and I completely agree.
That's beautiful Sydney! You are soooooo right. I take pleasure in reading your exquisite thoughts. Thank you. Thanks so much David! I truly appreciate it. Thanks for reading and your generous comment!
Sydney,
Very clever and well stated-is death friend of foe?Iit is the one the few things we humans understand of which we have little control. As you imply, we have the choice of how we live inbetween.
