I Commited Cold Blooded Murder

I injured then took away the life of a defenseless, much smaller creature. I flung it off the couch beside my front door, and when it hit the floor, after it's terrifying fall, the landing broke it's legs. It seemed innocent enough, I just flicked it off, right?
When it hit the floor, I expected it to crawl away. I was going to catch it and toss it out the door. But instead, I saw that it tried in vain and what I imagined to be excruciating pain to crawl away on broken legs. I watched for a moment as it struggled, trying to turn over, being unable to, until I flipped it over. Then, it still could not crawl away. It's legs were badly injured from my flinging it off the couch. I looked at it, and I saw it's legs, abdomen, eyes. Little antennae.
After realizing the horror of what I'd done to another living creature that was simply trying to live it's life, I tried to decide what to do. I couldn't allow it to go on living in such excruciating pain. I felt absolutely horrible for it.
I grabbed a napkin, balled it up in my hand, said a sorrowful prayer for the unsuspecting, utterly innocent creature I'd attacked, and slammed the napkin down on it as hard as possible so it'd atleast be given the mercy of a quick death.
This creature that I attacked so senselessly was a roach that had crawled in my front door from the woods outside, trying to escape winter.
I'm sure most of you think that I'm silly for saying this about an insect, about a simple roach. Well, roaches aren't so simple. We aren't roaches, but we are living beings and we know how it feels to live. How it feels to struggle for survival. Oh, actually, many of us don't know how it feels to struggle for survival. But for those of us that do, killing this little roach, when one thinks about it, is a thoughtless, cold blooded murder. I'm sure the roach's life is actually very complicated. All insects lives are, as are animal's. They deserve some amount of respect. I think that if we "must" kill any of them, it should be done with a thought for their feelings and a prayer for them. Along with an apology.
I'm not saying we shouldn't kill them. We can't let them take over our homes of course! BUT, I'm saying that when you kill these little living creatures, take their lives into consideration. Really think about their lives. Don't kill them cruelly and thoughtlessly. When I have to kill an insect, it's just as big a deal for me as if I were killing a human. They are living creatures with lives. They have feelings, they mate and have children, they eat, drink and sleep, just like us. They have their own struggles and challenges to deal with without our thoughtless, merciless cruelty and lack of understanding. So if you have to kill them, then please atleast do them the respect of taking their struggles into consideration and say a quick little prayer for them. It only takes a second and they deserve it. They deserve some amount of love and respect whether we have to kill them or not. They're on this earth for a reason, to live their lives. They don't deserve pain or cruelty. Their deaths should be made as quick and painless and full of prayer as possible. And you don't have to belive in God to pray for them to experience as little pain as possible.
Call me silly, but I love all creatures and take all of their feelings int oconsideration, whether I have to kill them or not and I'm very sorry for what I did to the roach that crawled into my door, trying to escape the winter, or whatever purpose he had.

You have an extrordinary sensitivity and reverence for life- the attribute of a great human being. Thank you Sidney- I look forward to reading many more articles from you in the future. Always- Ella--P.S.- When is your mama coming back to SW? Soo, I hope!I agree completely! Thanks so much for reading.

I think your definition of murder might be a little skewed. Let your not be troubled.Maybe, but I think it's accurate.

The greatest attribute of man is respect for life, any life, from the simplest form of creature to the most complex. Any variance of this attitude is nothing more than a degree of narcissism which is a human trait and the reason that we alone have the propensity to wreak so much havoc, destruction and unnecessary death among us. Your reasoning is to be admired, and if shared by all it would be a much different world in which we live. Thank you for sharing. Good day.I agree 100%! thanks for reading and commenting
To be thankful and have respect for life we all should all be grateful for.I agree completely, every living being deserves the same amount of respect. Thanks for reading and commenting!
I understand your point completely, I've had to deal with them before as well and they will drive you nuts. I have killed them and would again if it were necessary, but I just say a little prayer for them and hope it's quick and painless.

Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism - all travel on similar principles - never kill anybody. Your thoughts are perfectly fine and sensitive. You are right about offering a small prayer, after all they are living on this earth to complete something and evolve to a higher plane of learning just like us. Very nice.DM
I agree completely! If killing another living creature is necessary, then just say a prayer for them, at least. Everyone wants to fulfill their life, regardless of their species.

hi sydney,
i thought i was the only one who took animals and insects lives into consideration. when there is a bug or spider or whatever, i get a cup, lead it into it, and put it back outside.
we have these amazing "stink bugs" that climb on anything, even the ceiling. they are still thriving, in the the end of january. when i see one, i just toss it outside. it's so cold out, and there's a lot of snow, so it probably freezes to death, but as you said, we can't have them in our homes, so we do the best we know how.
thanks for sharing.
my best regards,
sue
Thanks Susan, I do the exact same thing! Thanks for reading and commenting
I don't think you're silly, Sydney, I do exactly the same thing. I hate killing things, and if I've hurt an insect I also can't leave it to suffer. I think insects are pretty amazing. So tiny, so perfect...I agree with you completely Jennifer! Thanks for reading and commenting
You're not alone Sydney. While I've heard people yelling, "Kill it, kill it!!" I've seen someone gently scoop a bug up into a tissue and carry it outside to let it go rather than stomp on it. Funny what little actions like that can reveal about a person. Welcome to SearchWarp! Thanks Brianna! That's what I do, I scoop 'em up and toss 'em outside. Thanks for reading and commenting
